REFLECTION
"A little bit of everything..." This has been the statement I have said the most since coming to Boston. Over the past few weeks I have met so many members of Hope that are excited to meet the new intern, but many of them have the same question: "What exactly does the summer intern do every day?".
Ministry is such a strange career to be in because the job description seems to change drastically everyday. One day I may be in the office updating weekly documents to send out to church members, another day it may be spending all day in the attic organizing all the craft supplies a church could ever need, and still another day it could be spending time in the Word at a local coffee shop and reading different books to prepare for meetings and discipleship.
This kind of variety can be exciting but also very difficult. I can definitely say that I will never be bored at my job. There is always a new project that needs some kind of work. But, it is very difficult to track progress and accomplishments with this job style.
I am finding that the theme for this season in life is depending on the Lord. True dependence on God and His Word is the only way to receive the lasting validation and encouragement needed to continue in a career in ministry. God's approval is all I need in my career, my conduct and character, my ability to succeed, and even in my relationships. His approval is what matter most and I am learning in this season to seek His approval rather than seek what the world deems as success.
Don't get me wrong, I still love to be productive, I just filled out my weekly planner and to-do list! But if everything is not checked off at the end of the week, I will be okay. I will trust that I was able to steward my time well to finish what was needed. Everything else can wait until later!
